Description For Lead CPU Performance Architect, Silicon

Google is seeking a Lead CPU Performance Architect to join their Silicon team, focusing on developing custom silicon solutions that power Google's direct-to-consumer products. This role requires a highly experienced professional with 8+ years in high-performance microprocessor architecture and design.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of Google's hardware experiences by improving processor instruction set architecture, developing innovative micro-architecture features, and delivering advanced SoC products. You'll work closely with Google's Android applications and Artificial Intelligence teams to conduct performance analysis and projections.

As a Lead CPU Performance Architect, you'll be responsible for delivering solutions to complex problems in CPU performance, micro-architecture design, and methodology. The role involves leading collaboration with RTL, design verification, and physical design teams, as well as driving performance correlation between models and implementation.

The ideal candidate should have a Master's degree (PhD preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, along with extensive experience in CPU architecture and performance modeling. Knowledge of system software components like Linux and processor instruction set architectures (ARM, RISC-V, x86) is highly valued.

This position offers competitive compensation including a base salary range of $177,000-$266,000, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits. Responsibilities For Lead CPU Performance Architect, Silicon

  • Deliver solutions to problems that may be ambiguous or lacking clear precedent including Central Processing Unit (CPU) performance, micro-architecture design, tool infrastructure, and methodology
  • Plan, drive, and evaluate ARM's architecture features from both architecture and performance angles
  • Define and write CPU subsystem architecture specifications
  • Lead the collaboration with RTL, design verification, and physical design teams to develop an efficient CPU implementation
  • Drive performance correlation between the performance model and RTL implementation, and perform pre-silicon and post-silicon performance bug triage

Requirements For Lead CPU Performance Architect, Silicon

Linux
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience in high-performance microprocessor architecture, micro-architecture, performance, and design
  • Experience in CPU architecture with CPU blocks
  • Experience in performance modeling, analysis, correlation, and workload characterization
