Description For Strategic Risk Manager

Google's Trust & Safety team is seeking a Strategic Risk Manager to join their team of abuse fighting and user trust experts. This role is crucial in protecting users and partners across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. The position requires a strategic thinker with extensive experience in Trust and Safety, policy, or cyber-security.

As a Strategic Risk Manager, you'll be responsible for managing critical incidents, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring the safety and integrity of Google's products. You'll work closely with engineering and product teams to create solutions that improve user safety, while handling escalations and crises effectively.

The role demands excellent communication skills and the ability to work across time zones, as you'll be collaborating with global teams to identify and combat abuse cases. You'll be part of a diverse team of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers, working in over 40 languages to reduce risk and fight abuse across all of Google's products.

Key responsibilities include taking command in critical Ads incidents, conducting impact assessments, contributing to crisis management, and reviewing past incidents to strengthen future responses. The ideal candidate should have 10 years of relevant experience, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to influence cross-functionally at various levels.

Responsibilities For Strategic Risk Manager

  • Take command in critical Ads incidents, ensuring coordination and communication across teams for resolution
  • Identify potential strategic risks to users or Google products, conduct impact assessments, and develop mitigation strategies
  • Contribute to the building of a Google Ads-focused issue mitigation pod and crisis management
  • Review past incidents, identifying context, root causes, and strategic actions for improvement
  • Work with sensitive content or situations and may be exposed to graphic, controversial, or upsetting topics or content

Requirements For Strategic Risk Manager

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 10 years of experience in Trust and Safety, policy, cyber-security, business strategy, or related fields
  • 5 years of experience in escalation management, crisis management, or a related field
  • Experience in cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management across multiple issues
  • Experience with managing escalations and crises, and working with front-line teams and executives
  • Experience working with engineering and product teams
  • Experience working with policy teams
  • Experience with Google products, infrastructure, and types of online abuse
  • Ability to work across time zones, including weekend oncall work
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
