Description For Sr. Cell Materials Engineer, LFP Cathode

Tesla is seeking a Sr. Cell Materials Engineer specializing in LFP Cathode to join their Battery Cells team. This role is critical in advancing Tesla's battery technology, which is fundamental to all Tesla products. The position involves spearheading cross-functional team validation efforts for LFP cathode materials, developing new material and electrochemical tests, and accelerating qualification time.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accelerating screening and validation of LFP cathode
  • Managing validation testing from lab to MP scale material, electrode, and cell validation trials
  • Interpreting electrochemical and material/electrode characterization data
  • Interfacing with strategic partners and internal stakeholders

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Cell Materials Engineering, Cell Qualification, and Cell Testing
  • Expertise in LFP cathode materials and cell failure analysis
  • Strong analytical skills and project management abilities

  • Accelerate screening and validation of LFP cathode
  • Organize and manage validation testing of lab to MP scale material, electrode, and cell validation trials
  • Interpret electrochemical and material/electrode characterization data
  • Interface with strategic partners and internal stakeholders by providing and analyzing key results and risks

Requirements For Sr. Cell Materials Engineer, LFP Cathode

  • Degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Cell Materials Engineering, Cell Qualification, Cell Testing
  • Experience working with LFP cathode materials from raw material to final product
  • Experience with LFP cathode material evaluation and LFP cell failure analysis
  • Knowledge of the intricacies of the chemical interplay between anode, cathode, and electrolyte
  • Knowledge of the interplay between material and electrode level properties and cell level properties
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical mind and strong project management skills
