31st Union is an innovative game development studio currently working on Project ETHOS, an exciting new free-to-play, 3rd person rogue-like hero shooter that promises to evolve the genre. As a Gameplay Systems Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of developing gameplay systems for our multiplatform multiplayer character-action game. Working alongside our experienced creative and engineering teams, you'll design and implement innovative mechanics within robust, extensible systems. Your role will involve prototyping new game modes, developing social features, handling networking aspects, and managing state and player progression systems.

We value technical expertise in C++, strong understanding of software architecture, and proficiency in 3D mathematics and physics. Experience with Unreal Engine and a background in shipping AAA games are highly desired. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize effectively, and maintain high standards in code quality and documentation.

Responsibilities For Gameplay Systems Engineer

  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, artists, and QA to develop and refine game systems
  • Rapidly prototype new mechanics to prove designs and iterate on mechanics
  • Design, architect and document technical designs for gameplay systems
  • Write clear, maintainable code
  • Accurately estimate schedules and deliver high quality work products
  • Anticipate, identify, analyze, prioritize, mitigate and communicate risks related to gameplay systems

Requirements For Gameplay Systems Engineer

  • Production C++ experience
  • Software architecture, algorithm and data structure proficiency
  • Strong 3D Math, Physics, and spatial reasoning skills
  • Multithreading, benchmarking and optimization experience
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with content creators
  • Experience shipping AAA game is desired
  • Unreal Engine 4 or Unreal Engine 5 experience
