Description For Senior Water Resources Engineer

A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to join their Herndon, VA office. The role primarily focuses on water resources engineering tasks for roadway and bridge projects, including drainage improvements, SWM retrofits, floodplain modeling, and stream/ecological restoration.

Responsibilities For Senior Water Resources Engineer

  • Produce construction plans, specifications, and construction estimates
  • Design stormwater management systems including open and closed storm drain systems
  • Complete calculations, models and reports for Water Resource related projects
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for channels, floodplains, and bridges
  • Obtain permit approvals from federal, state, and local agencies
  • Coordinate internally with other AMT engineers on various projects
  • Coordinate externally with clients and regulatory agencies
  • Ensure project deliverables meet client requirements and QA/QC procedures

Requirements For Senior Water Resources Engineer

  • BS in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Equivalent
  • Professional Engineer license preferred
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) Exam completion required
  • Minimum 7 years of water resources related experience
  • Strong MicroStation/Geopak/InRoads/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD/Civil 3D skills
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software (HydroCAD, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, PC-SWMM)
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently or in teams
  • Strong organizational, coordination, and communication skills
