This role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, focusing on facility maintenance and team management. The Assistant Engineer will work under the Chief Engineer's supervision, managing engineering staff and contractors while maintaining building systems, equipment, and grounds. Key responsibilities include preventive maintenance oversight, staff training, inventory management, and work order administration. The role requires strong technical knowledge in HVAC, building automation, and energy conservation.

The ideal candidate should have 3+ years of operations experience, relevant state/local engineering licenses, and strong leadership abilities. Technical certifications like HVAC licensing, OSHA awareness, and building automation systems experience are essential. The role demands excellent communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities For Assistant Engineer

  • Provides management for engineering staff at the direction of the Chief Engineer
  • Performs and administers preventive maintenance and operations work orders
  • Provides hands-on and classroom training for engineering staff
  • Manages stock levels on all engineering equipment and parts
  • Schedules activities of Stationary Engineers and inspects work
  • Reviews and manages work orders and priorities
  • Schedules engineers for regular workdays, holidays, and vacation relief
  • Prepares labor and material purchase requisitions
  • Maintains self-improvement program and stays current with new equipment and standards

Requirements For Assistant Engineer

  • 3+ years progressive operations experience preferred
  • Strong employee relation skills, coaching skills, and training skills
  • Highest-level relevant state/local license for stationary engineer and/or HVAC
  • Universal level refrigerant recovery license
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Computer skills and building automation systems experience
  • OSHA ACM awareness training certification
  • Working knowledge of energy conservation
