Description For Senior Backend Engineer, Guest & Host

Airbnb, the global hospitality platform that has facilitated over 2 billion guest arrivals since 2007, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for their Guest & Host team in London. This role focuses on building new tools for co-hosting functionality, making it easier for hosts to connect with co-hosts on the platform. As part of this position, you'll work on elevating co-hosting projects to a global scale, collaborating with engineering teams in San Francisco.

The role offers exciting opportunities to work on innovative and technically challenging projects that support major company strategies. You'll be tackling complex problems in UX, scale, performance, robustness, and quality. Responsibilities For Senior Backend Engineer, Guest & Host

  • Own key company level problem statements and drive critical projects
  • Lead the scoping phase, technical requirements and implementation of new functionality
  • Partner with Engineering teams and cross-functional partners (PM, Design, Data, TPM)
  • Architect and implement complex features
  • Help define and improve coding standards, development processes and best practices
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers

Requirements For Senior Backend Engineer, Guest & Host

Java
Kotlin
  • 5+ years of experience in backend/full-stack development
  • Bachelor's and/or Master/PhD's degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience
  • Considerable experience working in Java and/or Kotlin
  • Expertise in backend systems within large-scale service-oriented architectures
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to drive alignment, manage projects and collaborate with stakeholders
  • Passion for efficiency, availability, technical quality and system quality
