Description For Senior Fullstack Software Engineer, Financial Fraud

Airbnb is seeking a Senior Fullstack Software Engineer to join their Financial Fraud team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to defend Airbnb against various forms of financial fraud, including funds diversion, misuse of incentives and coupons, gift card fraud, and claims fraud.

As the first full stack software engineer on the team, you'll play a crucial role in upleveling front-end development practices while contributing to back-end product features. You'll work closely with product, operations, design, and data science teams to align on solutions and gather insights.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Investigating gaps in fraud defenses and payment systems
  • Building out fraud detection using rules and heuristics
  • Implementing remediation strategies and user challenges
  • Contributing to overall product strategy
  • Collaborating with other teams within trust and payments
  • Crafting detailed engineering design docs
  • Brainstorming new ways to defend against emerging fraud trends

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of industry fullstack engineering experience (or 2+ years with a PhD)
  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field
  • Proficiency in front-end (JavaScript/React/jQuery) and back-end (Java/Ruby/Go/C++) languages
  • Experience with high-scale web and data applications
  • Strong initiative and creativity in problem-solving
  • Data analysis skills and ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Attention to detail and capability to tackle ambiguous problems

Responsibilities For Senior Fullstack Software Engineer, Financial Fraud

  • Defend Airbnb against financial fraud, including funds diversion accounts, misuse of incentives and coupons, gift card fraud, claims fraud, and preventing new forms of fraud on new product launches
  • Investigate gaps in fraud defenses and payment systems
  • Build out fraud detection using rules and heuristics
  • Implement remediation strategies and user challenges
  • Contribute to the overall product strategy
  • Collaborate with other teams within trust and external to trust (payments team) to implement new defenses
  • Craft detailed engineering design docs to communicate and iterate on ideas with the team
  • Collaborate with ops to improve tooling
  • Brainstorm with the team to develop new defenses against emerging fraud trends
