Description For Test & Prototype Engineer

ALL.SPACE is seeking a Test & Prototype Engineer to join their Engineering team. This role involves designing and building test equipment for circuit board assemblies and modules, creating 3D printed components, building electromechanical subassemblies, and potentially programming robotic assembly machines. The ideal candidate will be an all-rounder with a strong desire to learn and grow within the company.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and building test equipment for circuit boards and modules
  • Operating and maintaining 3D printers to produce parts for Manufacturing and R&D teams
  • Assembling electromechanical subassemblies and testing designs
  • Programming robotic assembly machines and running product tests
  • Designing jigs and fixtures to improve production processes
  • Training team members and transferring processes to the Production team

The role requires a mix of mechanical & electronics design skills, programming abilities, and hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assembly. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced, innovative environment with opportunities for learning new skills and career progression.

Responsibilities For Test & Prototype Engineer

  • Design and build test equipment for circuit board assemblies and modules
  • Design and make 3D printed components for Manufacturing and R&D teams
  • Build electromechanical subassemblies and test designs
  • Program robotic assembly machines
  • Run tests on products and report data
  • Design and build jigs and fixtures to improve production processes
  • Train team members and transfer processes to the Production team
  • Specify and order materials from suppliers
  • Organize and control materials and equipment, including maintenance of light duty machinery

Requirements For Test & Prototype Engineer

Python
  • Level 3 BTEC in an engineering discipline with minimum 2 years experience
  • Experience assembling electro-mechanical products
  • Familiarity with hand tools and test equipment
  • Good communication and team working skills
  • Strong culture of safety and quality
  • Knowledge of ESD and associated precautions
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD design software (ideally Solidworks, Fusion 360)
  • Some programming experience (e.g., Arduino, Python)
  • IPC-610 Level 2/3 training (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of robotics and machine programming (advantageous)
