AltaLink, a member of the Berkshire Hathaway Energy family, is seeking a Power System Engineer to join their Power System Studies team in Calgary. The position involves conducting various system and facility studies to support customer generation, load connection, and transmission system planning.

The successful candidate will work with both internal and external technical staff, providing expertise in power system studies and technical support throughout all project phases. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, professional engineering registration eligibility, and minimum 4 years of relevant experience. They should possess strong technical knowledge of transmission system modeling and familiarity with industry-standard tools like PSSE and PSCAD/EMTDC.

Responsibilities For Power System Engineer

  • Deliver generation and load connection engineering studies and cost-effective solutions
  • Optimize connection alternatives and develop mitigation measures
  • Deliver system planning assessment for transmission reinforcement
  • Deliver facility studies for system and customer projects
  • Support transmission modeling
  • Work with AESO teams to identify system and operational issues
  • Provide system and facility study support to new business development initiatives

Requirements For Power System Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Engineering emphasis
  • Professional Engineer or eligible for APEGA registration
  • Minimum 4 years of power system engineering experience on high voltage transmission systems
  • Experience with PTI's PSSE program and power system analysis tools like PSCAD/EMTDC
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Proven track record of good attendance and performance
