The Amazon Security Enablement for External Environments (SE3) team is seeking a Security Engineer to strengthen their security operations and tooling capabilities. This role focuses on ensuring Amazon Builders operate their third-party vendor software securely through building tools and performing security reviews.
The position offers an exciting opportunity to directly influence security postures for acquired products and services, working alongside world-class engineers and senior leadership. As a Security Engineer, you'll be responsible for:
- Conducting security reviews of internal usage of third-party vendor software
- Developing automated tools for secure configuration assessment
- Providing security guidance and documentation
- Working with engineering teams to prioritize security issues
- Offering expert consultancy on risk assessment, incident triage, and threat modeling
- Implementing security controls and patterns
- Collaborating with teams across multiple locations
- Leading process improvement projects
- Delivering security training
The ideal candidate should possess strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and deep technical understanding of modern cloud security threats. The role requires a BS in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience) and at least 3+ years of experience in areas such as threat modeling, secure coding, identity management, software development, cryptography, or cloud security.

Responsibilities For Application Security Engineer, Security Enablement for External Environments
- Conduct security reviews of internal usage of third-party vendor software
- Develop and implement tooling to automatically assess secure configuration of third-party vendor software
- Provide security guidance documentation
- Work with engineering teams to prioritize security issues
- Provide expert advice on risk assessment, incident triage, and threat modeling
- Implement information security controls and patterns
- Collaborate with engineering teams to drive product roadmaps
- Lead internal process improvement projects
- Provide security training and outreach
- Assist with metrics delivery and improvements
Requirements For Application Security Engineer, Security Enablement for External Environments
- BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 3+ years of experience in threat modeling, secure coding, identity management, authentication, software development, cryptography, penetration testing, cloud security, mobile security, or network security
- Experience reading and writing in at least one programming language
- Strong application security background with focus on scalable solutions
- Experience building and securing complex AWS architecture
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
