ASIC Physical Design Engineer, Annapurna Labs

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an ASIC Physical Design Engineer intern to join their Annapurna Labs team, which stands at the forefront of hardware co-design across the industry. This is a full-time summer internship position lasting 12 consecutive weeks (40 hours/week).

The role is part of the Cloud-Scale Machine Learning Acceleration team, focusing on technologies like AWS Inferentia, a machine learning inference accelerator designed for high performance at low cost. As an intern, you'll be immersed in cutting-edge work that impacts AWS at an internet scale, working on projects that are deeply important to customers.

The position offers hands-on experience in silicon design, from creating custom silicon to managing the full lifecycle of systems at AWS scale. You'll be responsible for physical design of machine learning custom silicon solutions, participating in various aspects including chip floorplanning, circuit analysis, power/clock distribution, and timing optimization.

Key technical aspects include:

• Full chip floorplanning and circuit analysis
• Power/clock distribution and timing optimization
• Place and route implementation
• Power integrity analysis and physical verification
• Script development in Tcl/PERL for design flow improvement

The role requires a strong academic background in Electrical or Computer Engineering, with graduation dates between May 2023 and December 2025. You should have a solid foundation in VLSI circuit design fundamentals and practical experience through coursework and projects.

The compensation is competitive, ranging from $104,000 to $212,200 per year depending on geographic location, with additional benefits including equity, sign-on payments, and comprehensive medical coverage.
