AWS Infrastructure Services is at the heart of Amazon's cloud operations, responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) position is a critical role within the Data Center Engineering Operations Team, focused on maintaining the vital physical infrastructure supporting AWS services.
The role involves ensuring 100% availability of the data center's MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems while delivering exceptional customer service. As a CE, you'll be responsible for managing all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, overseeing planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response protocols.
Key responsibilities include leading the DCEO Engineering Team, establishing performance benchmarks, managing shift technicians and contractors, overseeing critical systems (including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, chillers, etc.), and participating in data center capacity planning. You'll work closely with IT managers and business leaders to coordinate projects and optimize plant safety, reliability, and efficiency.
