Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Data Center Chief Engineer to join their Data Center Engineering Operations Team in Dublin. This role is crucial for maintaining the critical physical infrastructure supporting AWS services. The position involves ensuring 100% availability of data center MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems while delivering exceptional customer service.

The Chief Engineer will serve as the technical expert, managing both planned maintenance and emergency responses. They will oversee a team of Engineering Operations Technicians and coordinate with third-party vendors. The role requires expertise in managing large-scale projects, from conception to completion, working across engineering, automation, procurement, and finance teams globally.

Key responsibilities include directing facility operations, implementing training programs, and maintaining critical equipment such as diesel generators, UPS systems, chillers, and building automation systems. The successful candidate will drive innovation and resilience while optimizing operational costs.

AWS Infrastructure Services, the team behind this role, is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. They tackle complex problems involving thousands of supply chain variables and maintain the highest standards for safety and security.

The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, and have extensive knowledge of data center infrastructure.   • Oversee day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers
  • Assist in design and build out of new facilities
  • Act as escalation point for facilities-related issues
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians
  • Ensure safety procedures adherence
  • Manage building workflows through Change Management Systems
  • Provide metric availability reporting
  • Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audience

Requirements For Chief Engineer, DCEO

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong working knowledge of Data Center infrastructure
  • In-depth knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems
  • Knowledge of mechanical-room infrastructure
  • Experience in operations and on-call support for Data Center facilities
  • Project Management experience
  • Ability to solve problems at their root
  • Aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Experience reading SLDs and control schematics
