Description For Construction Associate, Retrofit Engineering

Amazon Japan is seeking a Construction Associate for their Retrofit Engineering team to support the implementation of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in fulfillment centers. This role is crucial in maintaining Amazon's competitive edge in rapid delivery capabilities through efficient facility design and construction management.

The position involves managing large-scale renovation projects at fulfillment centers and sort centers, with projects typically lasting 10 months to 2 years. Working within a team of 3-4 engineers, you'll be responsible for overseeing construction schedules, quality control, safety management, and budget oversight for MHE implementation projects.

Day-to-day responsibilities include creating detailed construction maps, coordinating between multiple vendors, conducting safety briefings, and ensuring work progresses according to plan. You'll work closely with global engineering teams to implement cutting-edge processes and collaborate with domestic and international partners to enhance shipping capabilities while reducing costs.

The role requires a mix of office and on-site work, with significant time spent at construction sites during project implementation phases. You'll be part of a collaborative team that values mutual support and information sharing, working in an environment that promotes work-life balance through flexible scheduling options.

Responsibilities For Construction Associate, Retrofit Engineering

  • Manage construction schedules and ensure work progresses according to plan
  • Create and manage construction maps showing time and space requirements
  • Coordinate between multiple vendors and conduct daily progress meetings
  • Perform quality control checks on vendor work
  • Ensure workplace safety and conduct safety briefings
  • Manage construction costs and equipment procurement

Requirements For Construction Associate, Retrofit Engineering

  • Experience in logistics (MHE/Storage/Automation) or manufacturing equipment setup and maintenance
  • Proven track record of working with internal departments and external vendors
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office for data analysis and technical report creation
  • Ability to communicate in both Japanese and English (oral and written)
  • Experience with CAD layout design and mechanical design based on structural calculations
