Description For Construction Manager

AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking a Data Center Construction Manager to join their team responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure. This role is crucial in keeping the cloud running by managing the construction of industry-leading data centers.

As a Construction Manager, you'll oversee complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. You'll work directly on construction sites as Amazon's owner's representative, managing contractors and ensuring projects meet cost, schedule, and quality requirements. The position requires expertise in both electrical and mechanical systems, with responsibilities ranging from bid evaluation to project closeout.

The ideal candidate brings 6+ years of construction management experience with a strong background in MEP systems. You'll collaborate with diverse teams including Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to build data centers that directly support AWS customers. The role demands strong technical knowledge, leadership abilities, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities For Construction Manager

  • Direct interface with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and project closeout phases
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals
  • Create construction project scope and request for proposals
  • Construction project management for data center initiatives
  • Constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs
  • Construction document management including submittal review, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing
  • Construction project quality control
  • Record and report key construction metrics
  • Drive teams in troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis
  • Define data center system-level architecture and requirements

Requirements For Construction Manager

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent OR 6+ years related experience
  • 6+ years of experience in construction management of large, complex MEP projects
  • 6+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience
  • 6+ years of experience constructing electrical and mechanical engineering systems
  • Understanding of electrical engineering principles
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles for cooling systems
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with value engineering
