Description For Construction Manager, AMER Central Construction

AWS Infrastructure Services, the backbone of Amazon's cloud computing platform, is seeking a Data Center Construction Manager to join their team. This role is crucial in maintaining and expanding AWS's global infrastructure, which supports all AWS data centers including servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment.

As a Construction Manager, you'll be responsible for overseeing the construction of industry-leading, energy-efficient data centers. You'll work directly on-site as Amazon's owner's representative, managing construction vendors and contractors while ensuring projects meet cost, schedule, and quality requirements. The role involves collaboration with diverse teams including Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning.

The ideal candidate brings 6+ years of experience in construction management of large-scale MEP projects, along with a strong background in electrical and mechanical systems. You'll be part of a diverse, creative team solving fascinating problems in data center construction, working with some of the most interesting electrical and mechanical systems globally.

Key responsibilities include managing construction project lifecycles, conducting contractor negotiations, performing constructability reviews, and ensuring quality control. You'll also be involved in financial analysis, project documentation, and reporting key metrics to stakeholders.

Responsibilities For Construction Manager, AMER Central Construction

  • Direct interface with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and project closeout phases
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals
  • Create construction project scope and request for proposals
  • Construction project management for data center initiatives
  • Constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs
  • Construction document management including submittal review, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing
  • Record and report key construction metrics
  • Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis
  • Define data center system-level architecture and requirements

Requirements For Construction Manager, AMER Central Construction

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent engineering science OR 6+ years of related construction management experience
  • 6+ years of experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) plants
  • 6+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience
  • 6+ years of experience constructing electrical engineering systems
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA
