Description For Construction Manager, Data Centers

AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking a Data Center Construction Manager to join their team responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure. This role is crucial in keeping the cloud running by managing the construction of industry-leading, energy-efficient data centers. The position involves daily on-site interaction with construction trades as Amazon's owner's representative, driving cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction vendors and contractors.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction management of large-scale MEP plants and a strong background in electrical and mechanical systems. They will work alongside Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning teams to build data centers that directly support AWS customers. The role offers unique opportunities to work on some of the most interesting electrical and mechanical systems globally while being part of a diverse, creative team.

Key responsibilities include managing construction projects from bidding to closeout, conducting negotiations, creating project scopes, performing financial analysis, and ensuring quality control. The position requires strong technical knowledge of data center architecture, building codes, and regulations. Responsibilities For Construction Manager, Data Centers

  • Direct interface with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and project closeout phases
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals
  • Create construction project scope and request for proposals
  • Construction project management and quality control
  • Financial analysis of construction
  • Constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs
  • Construction document management including submittal review, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing
  • Record and report key construction metrics
  • Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis

Requirements For Construction Manager, Data Centers

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent engineering science OR 8+ years of related construction management experience
  • 8 years of experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) plants
  • 6 years of general contractor and vendor management experience
  • 6 years of experience constructing electrical engineering systems
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA
  • Ability to read and interpret construction specifications and drawings
