Description For Construction Manager, Data Centers

AWS Infrastructure Services is at the heart of Amazon's cloud operations, responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. As a Data Center Construction Manager, you'll join a diverse team tasked with building industry-leading, energy-efficient, and cost-effective data centers. You'll work alongside Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning teams, managing some of the most sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems globally.

The role demands daily on-site presence, where you'll serve as Amazon's owner's representative, directly managing construction vendors and contractors. You'll be responsible for driving cost, schedule, and quality while overseeing the entire construction process from design review to final hand-off. This position offers unique opportunities to own projects end-to-end, leveraging Amazon's comprehensive approach to data center development.

Responsibilities For Construction Manager, Data Centers

  • Direct interface with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and project closeout phases
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals
  • Create construction project scope and request for proposals
  • Financial analysis of construction
  • Construction project management for data center resiliency initiatives
  • Constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs
  • Construction document management including submittal review, RFI's, change orders, and invoicing
  • Construction project quality control
  • Record and report key construction metrics
  • Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis

Requirements For Construction Manager, Data Centers

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent engineering science OR 6+ years of related construction management experience
  • 6+ years of experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) plants
  • 6+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience
  • 6+ years of experience constructing electrical engineering systems
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA
