Description For Construction Manager, DC Construction, Data Center Construction

AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking a Data Center Construction Manager to join their team responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure. This role is crucial in maintaining AWS's cloud infrastructure, managing the construction of state-of-the-art data centers that directly support AWS customers.

As a Construction Manager, you'll oversee complex construction projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. You'll work alongside diverse teams including Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to build industry-leading, energy-efficient data centers. Your responsibilities will span from initial design review through construction bidding, execution, and final handoff.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in construction management, particularly with large-scale technical infrastructure projects. You'll need strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering principles, familiarity with building codes and regulations, and proven ability to manage contractors and vendors effectively.

Responsibilities For Construction Manager, DC Construction, Data Center Construction

  • Daily construction site supervision as Amazon's owner's representative
  • Drive cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction vendors and contractors
  • Direct interface with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and project closeout
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals
  • Create construction project scope and request for proposals
  • Construction project management for data center resiliency initiatives
  • Constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs
  • Construction document management including submittal review, RFI's, change orders, and invoicing
  • Record and report key construction metrics
  • Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis

Requirements For Construction Manager, DC Construction, Data Center Construction

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent engineering science OR 4+ years related construction management experience
  • 5+ years experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale MEP plants
  • 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience
  • 4+ years experience constructing electrical engineering systems
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA
