Description For Control System Development Engineer

Amazon Robotics is seeking an experienced System Development Engineer specializing in Safety and Sensors to join their Motion Planning and Control team. This role focuses on creating worldwide impact in robotics while solving challenges at the edge of robotics research. The position involves working with high-performance, real-time robotic systems that can perceive, learn, and act intelligently alongside humans at Amazon scale.

The role requires expertise in developing and implementing safety architectures for robotic workcells, including emergency stop systems, safety PLCs, and interlock systems. You'll be responsible for evaluating and integrating various sensors to enhance system robustness and performance, while ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards.

Working in Amazon's innovative robotics division, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, software developers, and operations personnel. The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $116,300 to $201,200 based on location and experience, plus comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision coverage, 401(k), and parental leave options.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in safety systems and sensors in industrial automation or robotics. The role requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 5 years of relevant experience. You'll be part of a team that enables robots to interact safely and efficiently in real-world fulfillment centers, contributing to solutions that allow robots to learn from their experiences and from humans.

The position involves approximately 15% travel for onsite system testing and requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities. If you're passionate about robotics safety and want to make an impact on a global scale, this role offers the chance to work with cutting-edge technology while ensuring the highest safety standards in robotic operations.
