Amazon's Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join their dynamic team. This role represents a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of automation, robotics, and large-scale logistics operations.

As a Control Systems Engineer, you'll be instrumental in ensuring the reliability and performance of Amazon's sophisticated fulfillment center operations. You'll work with cutting-edge material handling equipment (MHE) systems, including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, and SCADA devices. Your expertise will be crucial in troubleshooting complex control systems, analyzing performance metrics, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

The role offers extensive hands-on experience with industrial automation systems, including PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus), motor control systems, and electrical distribution systems. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Engineering, FC Start-up Team, and Safety teams, to optimize systems and implement innovative solutions.

Key responsibilities include providing technical leadership, mentoring Control System Technicians, facilitating failure analysis, and acting as a technical consultant for capital projects. You'll be expected to handle both planned maintenance and emergency situations, potentially including after-hours support.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in electrical or mechanical engineering, with experience in PLC-based controls and industrial automation. Responsibilities For Control Systems Engineer I, RME

  • Coordinate and plan work activities for Control Systems Techs/Leads
  • Work with Operations, Engineering, and Safety teams for MHE systems optimization
  • Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems
  • Monitor MHE metrics and analyze system performance
  • Provide first-level escalation support for Control Systems Techs/Leads
  • Mentor Control System Technicians and Leads
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes
  • Partner with Operations leadership for new technology installations
  • Communicate technical issues and project timelines
  • Assist with skill assessments for Technical positions

Requirements For Control Systems Engineer I, RME

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology or equivalent, or 5+ years of professional/military experience
  • Experience in PLC based controls design, development, implementation and support
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
  • Experience with electrical theory, robotics, and automated equipment
  • Experience with HMI and control network components
  • Industrial electrical hands-on experience with 480V 3-phase systems
  • Experience with SCADA systems and KPIs
  • Experience with programming software like RSLogix5000 studio
  • Systems integration experience
  • Experience with industrial robotics
