Description For Data Center Chief Engineer

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Data Center Chief Engineer to join their Data Center Engineering Operations team. As a Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and operating critical infrastructure systems in some of the world's most sophisticated, safe, and secure data centers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the primary escalation point for facilities-related issues
  • Overseeing operation and management of routine and emergency services on critical systems
  • Performing root cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Providing training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians
  • Creating and deploying new standard practices
  • Assisting in the build-out of new facilities and efficiency improvement projects
  • Working outside normal business hours for routine maintenance and emergency calls
  • Communicating complex technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Ensuring safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff
  • Establishing building performance benchmarks and conducting analyses

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Technical training or degree in a relevant field (electrical, mechanical)
  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 3+ years of data center or mission-critical facilities experience
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to manage projects from conception to completion
  • Experience with a wide range of critical systems and equipment

Requirements For Data Center Chief Engineer

Linux
  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training or degree in a relevant field (electrical, mechanical)
  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience
  • Ability to lift and move up to 39 pounds independently
  • Participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds
  • Maintain balance and perform tasks while on a ladder
  • Physical abilities: walking, using hands and fingers, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing stairs, twisting, bending, working above shoulders
