Description For Data Center Engineering Operations Technician

AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician to join their world-class team responsible for maintaining and operating critical infrastructure systems in AWS data centers. This role is crucial in supporting the operations of some of the world's most powerful data centers, ensuring 24/7 reliability and availability.

As an EOT, you'll work with cutting-edge technology in some of the most sophisticated, safe, and secure data centers globally. You'll be responsible for monitoring and maintaining electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and ensuring optimal performance of critical systems including standby diesel generators, 3-phase electrical systems, HVAC components, and building automation systems.

The role offers unique opportunities to work with the brightest minds in the industry, implementing newest technologies and best practices. You'll be part of AWS Infrastructure Services, which owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. This team is fundamental in keeping the cloud running, supporting all AWS data centers and the equipment that ensures continuous customer access to AWS services.

This position requires both technical expertise and physical capabilities, including the ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various physical conditions. You'll work in rotating 12-hour shifts, possibly including on-call rotations, demonstrating the critical nature of this 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities For Data Center Engineering Operations Technician

  • Daily building rounds to monitor electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment
  • Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management System (EPMS)
  • Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within SLAs
  • Perform rack installs and decommissioning
  • Perform PM, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and repair of equipment
  • Technical writing for change management program
  • Monitor and resolve daily work requests
  • Provide on-site support for contractors and vendors
  • Work rotating 12-hour shifts with possible on-call duties

Requirements For Data Center Engineering Operations Technician

Linux
  • High school or equivalent diploma
  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training or 1+ years of electrical or mechanical, HVAC, fire system experience
  • 1+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 1+ years experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to lift and move up to 39 pounds independently
  • Ability to participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds
  • Physical ability to maintain balance, work on ladders, and perform construction tasks
