Description For Data Center Manager

AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) is seeking a Data Center Manager to join their team responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure. This role combines technical leadership with operational excellence in managing world-class data center facilities. The ideal candidate will bring 5+ years of engineering experience managing large-scale services and 3+ years of team leadership experience.

As a Data Center Manager, you'll be at the forefront of managing AWS's cloud computing infrastructure, which handles over 40,000 objects per second for services like S3. You'll lead teams of engineers, maintain existing facilities, help launch new data centers, and drive continuous improvement in operations. The role demands strong technical expertise combined with excellent leadership skills.

The position offers unique challenges in scaling one of the world's largest distributed systems. You'll work with cutting-edge technology while managing relationships with both internal teams and external vendors. AWS is expanding rapidly, doubling their worldwide CloudFront co-location Data Centers in recent months with plans for continued growth.

Responsibilities For Data Center Manager

  • Managing and developing teams of engineers
  • Maintaining existing co-located and in-house Data Centers
  • Helping build and bring online new Data Centers
  • Improving processes and procedures
  • Managing relationships with external vendors & contractors
  • Liaising with internal teams & management groups
  • Ensuring adherence to Health & Safety standards
  • Creating and maintaining metrics on Data Centers
  • Implementing service methodologies including incident management

Requirements For Data Center Manager

Linux
  • An engineering degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience managing large scale services
  • At least 3 years building strong, successful technical teams
  • High degree of organization and detail-orientation
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Proven track record of success in delivering complex projects
  • Prior ownership of the operation of a mission-critical team and/or product
  • Ability to consistently deliver results despite competing priorities
