Description For DCEO Chief Engineer

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Services is seeking a Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) to join their team in the Greater Milan Area. This role is crucial in maintaining the critical physical infrastructure supporting AWS operations. The CE will be responsible for ensuring 100% availability of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.

The position involves both hands-on technical work and leadership responsibilities, including managing large-scale projects, providing technical expertise, and supporting a team of Engineering Operations Technicians. The role requires expertise in various equipment including diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, and building automation systems.

As a CE, you'll be part of AWS Infrastructure Services, the team responsible for keeping the cloud running globally. You'll work alongside diverse professionals including software, hardware, and network engineers, collaborating across AWS to maintain the highest standards of safety and security while optimizing operational efficiency.

Responsibilities For DCEO Chief Engineer

  • Oversee day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers
  • Assist in design and build out of new facilities
  • Act as escalation point for facilities-related issues
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians
  • Ensure safety procedures adherence
  • Manage building workflows through Change Management Systems
  • Provide metric availability reporting
  • Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audience

Requirements For DCEO Chief Engineer

Linux
Kubernetes
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong working knowledge of Data Center infrastructure
  • In-depth knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems and mechanical-room infrastructure
  • Full EU driving license
  • Experience in operations and on-call support for Data Center facilities
  • Project Management experience
