Description For Engineering Manager, AWS Infrastructure

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centres and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain.

As an Engineering Manager for AWS Infrastructure, you will:

  • Participate in design reviews to identify and mitigate operational risk
  • Work closely with Software Development and Site-Reliability teams to improve the change management lifecycle
  • Drive teams to improve operational efficiency through root-cause and trend analysis
  • Develop SLA, metrics, monitors, procedures, tools, and documentation
  • Collaborate with hardware design teams on fleet issues
  • Draft strategies for scaling the business
  • Play a significant role in hiring, developing, and promoting engineers

The role involves a 6-12 month training period, rotating through various AWS locations before being deployed to a permanent data centre region. AWS values work-life balance, offering a flexible schedule for a more productive and well-balanced life.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in IT-related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience managing system or software development teams
  • 5+ years of experience developing project schedules, charters, and execution plans

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices
  • Project Management experience with AGILE, SCRUM, KANBAN, or KAIZEN
  • Experience hiring, recruiting, developing, and promoting Technical Contributors and Engineers
  • Experience scripting in languages like Bash, Python, Perl, or Ruby
