Description For Engineering Operation Technician, InfraOps DCEO

AWS Infrastructure Services is at the heart of Amazon's cloud operations, responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. This role is for an Engineering Operations Technician (EOT) position within AWS data centers, where you'll be crucial in maintaining the infrastructure that powers AWS services worldwide.

As an EOT, you'll be responsible for operating and maintaining critical electrical, mechanical, emergency generator, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. The role demands a high level of technical expertise as you'll be working with equipment that must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. You'll handle everything from standby diesel generators to UPS systems and building automation systems.

The position involves hands-on troubleshooting and operation of complex systems, requiring both technical knowledge and practical skills. You'll work in a dynamic environment with 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule, being part of a team that ensures 24/7 coverage of critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities For Engineering Operation Technician, InfraOps DCEO

  • Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within internal SLAs
  • Perform maintenance tasks including filter changes, HVAC PMs, rack power installs
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Take daily operational readings of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance
  • Respond to off-hour emergency calls
  • Manage building workflows and spare part inventory

Requirements For Engineering Operation Technician, InfraOps DCEO

Linux
  • Commutable to the Thames Valley Region
  • Technical training (Military or trade school) or relevant experience
  • Ability to work in cramped and/or elevated locations
  • Valid driver's license and own vehicle
  • Willing to work 12-hour shifts (rotating 3 and 4 day work weeks days or nights)
  • 4+ years of Data Centre Engineering Experience preferred
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline preferred
  • Knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage cabling
