SPICE lab, a Seattle-based branch of Amazon's Lab126 subsidiary, is a research and development group founded in 2017 that partners with Amazon's most ambitious hardware organizations. The lab supports various hardware programs including Kuiper, Prime Air, Robotics, Mechatronics, and Lab126 Devices. As a Failure Analysis Engineer, you'll be part of a dynamic team working in a 10,000 sq. foot lab facility, conducting crucial investigations to improve product reliability and safety. You'll leverage various advanced analytical techniques including microscopy, spectroscopy, and thermal-mechanical analysis to drive design improvements. The role combines hands-on lab work with strategic problem-solving, requiring both technical expertise and strong communication skills to work with cross-functional stakeholders. You'll manage multiple investigations simultaneously, providing regular updates and detailed analysis reports. The position offers competitive compensation based on location and experience, ranging from $86,900 to $185,000 annually, plus additional benefits and potential equity compensation. Responsibilities For Failure Analysis Engineer, SPICE Lab

  • Conducting technical lab work for prototype failure analysis
  • Developing and executing analysis outcomes in sample preparation and characterization
  • Managing queue of failure analysis requests
  • Data collection using microscopy, x-ray imaging, spectroscopy, and other methods
  • Consultation on corrective actions and design/manufacturing best practices
  • Maintenance of lab tools and operations best-practices
  • Providing daily updates to stakeholders
  • Creating failure analysis reports

Requirements For Failure Analysis Engineer, SPICE Lab

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent
  • 2+ years of hardware design and validation experience
  • Experience using advanced materials and failure analysis techniques
  • Experience in performing bulk materials or electronics cross sections
  • Experience following lab safety best-practices and SOPs
