Amazon Robotics is seeking a dedicated Hardware Failure Analysis Engineer to join their Failure Analysis (FA) Team in Westborough, MA. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with analytical problem-solving in a cutting-edge robotics environment. The position involves working with advanced analytical tools to perform root cause analysis on Amazon Robotics products and conducting material characterization to guide design and process improvements.

The role sits within a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, software, and quality engineers dedicated to advancing robotics technology that fulfills millions of customer orders daily. You'll be responsible for creating and executing test programs, analyzing failures, and collaborating with various teams to drive product improvements.

Key responsibilities include performing detailed failure analysis, maintaining documentation systems, working with multiple engineering teams, and contributing to process improvements. The ideal candidate will have strong materials science knowledge, experience with analytical tools like SEM and FTIR, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities For Hardware Failure Analysis Engineer

  • Perform hands-on root cause analysis (RCA) and in-depth failure characterizations
  • Work with teams to identify root causes and drive resolution for failures
  • Maintain RCA repository database and write FA reports
  • Operate and apply standard FA tools and lab equipment
  • Collaborate with test engineering and design team for DOE planning
  • Validate and verify supplier and vendor FA
  • Develop FA SOPs and troubleshooting procedures
  • Help manage and train FA Engineers and Technicians
  • Lab organization and documentation

Requirements For Hardware Failure Analysis Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience with materials sample preparation
  • Experience with materials characterization techniques (SEM, FTIR, CT/X-Ray, XRF analyzer, profilometers)
  • Hands-on experience in material characterization of metal, polymer, composites
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Lab experience analyzing failures
