Description For Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer, Vulcan Stow

The Vulcan Stow team at Amazon Robotics is seeking an Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer to join their diverse and dynamic team. This role involves building Manipulation Robotic solutions from the ground up, aiming to automate the Stowing function in Amazon Fulfillment Centers using a combination of Software, Science, Hardware, and Controls Engineering solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining, expanding, and exploring the design space for complex, multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems
  • Identifying and analyzing cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives
  • Breaking down problems using concept of operations, use cases, and structural/functional decompositions
  • Ensuring product safety, reliability, and usability at Amazon scale
  • Performing technical risk assessments and devising mitigation plans
  • Defining metrics for measuring robotic operations performance
  • Developing system integration and evaluation strategies
  • Driving system test campaigns across lab and field testing environments

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in integrated system design, industrial robotics, and automated manipulation solutions. Experience with machine learning systems, scalable and safety-critical systems, and domains such as Industrial Automation, Robotic Manipulation, Perception, and Controls is preferred.

Requirements For Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer, Vulcan Stow

  • 5+ years of experience with eliciting and clarifying business and end user needs, and connecting those needs to system concepts, requirements, and designs
  • Experience leading technical partnerships and creating alignment across diverse groups
  • Experience identifying and analyzing dependencies, tradeoffs, and sensitivities across multi-disciplinary systems
  • BS or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, or another STEM discipline
  • Experience with industrial robotics and automated manipulations solutions (preferred)
  • Experience with machine learning systems and supporting hardware/software systems across the product life cycle (preferred)
  • Experience with developing scalable and safety-critical systems (preferred)
  • Experience with Industrial Automation, Robotic Manipulation, Perception and Controls (preferred)
