Description For Manager, Application Engineer, E-reader products

Have you ever wanted to be part of a team that builds highly efficient operating systems for E-readers? Amazon's E-reader platform team owns the operating system stack (C/C++) and the low-level components that make the device energy efficient with weeks of battery life. We recently launched Kindle Scribe, a larger form factor device that now unlocks reading as well as writing.

As a Manager, Application Engineer in this team, you will:

  • Own a charter related to Kindle E-reader and be responsible for partnering with multiple developers and teams in maintaining the E-reader platform.
  • Lead application engineers to maintain platform software by looking into internal and external reported issues, monitoring metrics, creating automation tools and dashboards.
  • Have deep technical expertise and be able to solve challenging and ambiguous problems across the Amazon Kindle operating system.
  • Create a structure for your team and develop a long-term roadmap.
  • Work with key stakeholders in engineering teams to define strategy and requirements.
  • Lead cross-functional maintenance and development of tools on Kindle E-reader operating system from design through delivery.
  • Work with remote teams to deliver supporting software with launch timelines.
  • Communicate regularly with leaders on status, risks, and change control.

This role requires a strong background in system software, OS, app framework, or devices platform experience, along with a deep understanding of operating system concepts and proficiency in C/C++. You'll be at the forefront of creating value for millions of customers as we launch more E-readers with additional capabilities.

Join us if you're ready to be an owner, encouraged to build, and have the autonomy to push boundaries in creating an operating system that enables builders to create applications on top of it.
