Description For Manufacturing Engineer, Kuiper Launch Operations

Project Kuiper is Amazon's ambitious initiative to revolutionize global broadband access through a constellation of over 3,000 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). This role is integral to the manufacturing and launch operations of these satellites, combining hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you'll lead teams through critical satellite processing operations, from offloading to electrical validation, in a clean-room environment. The position demands expertise in both mechanical handling and electrical testing of sophisticated space hardware.

The role offers unique challenges in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where you'll work with cutting-edge space technology. Responsibilities For Manufacturing Engineer, Kuiper Launch Operations

  • Lead team of technicians through satellite offloading and processing operations
  • Author and update work instructions for satellite handling and testing
  • Plan material flow and implement manufacturing processes
  • Verify satellite health using computer-controlled equipment
  • Define rigging diagrams and lift operations
  • Evaluate and improve takt time of operations
  • Resolve anomalies and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain and calibrate mechanical ground equipment
  • Mentor new and junior team members
  • Travel up to 25% annually for business needs

Requirements For Manufacturing Engineer, Kuiper Launch Operations

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, physics, material science or related discipline
  • 2+ years experience working with space flight hardware
  • 1+ years experience authoring and executing mechanical and test work instructions
  • Experience with FOD, ESD sensitive hardware, and clean room operations
  • Experience with forklifts, cranes, rigging, and heavy equipment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or refugee/asylee due to export control laws
  • Ability to obtain US Passport and meet customs entry requirements
  • Ability to pass Kennedy Space Center background check
