Description For Mechanical Design Engineer, Data Center Design Engineering

AWS Infrastructure Services is at the heart of Amazon's cloud operations, responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. This role offers an opportunity to join the team that keeps the cloud running, supporting all AWS data centers and their critical infrastructure. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll work on challenging problems involving thousands of variables in the supply chain. The position requires expertise in mechanical system design, particularly for data center environments, with a focus on HVAC and cooling systems. You'll collaborate with diverse teams across AWS, including software, hardware, and network engineers, while working to maintain the highest standards of safety and security. The role involves approximately 20% travel, including potential international assignments, and offers significant opportunities for professional growth and development. You'll be responsible for complete project lifecycles, from concept to construction, and will serve as a subject matter expert in mechanical engineering. The position combines technical expertise with team collaboration, working with internal teams and external stakeholders including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.

  • Design resilient, cost effective mechanical distribution systems
  • Achieve world class uptime for customers
  • Justify and communicate technical decisions to Sr. Management
  • Drive continuous advancements and improvements with designs
  • Take designs from concept to permit and construction document set
  • Define critical equipment specifications and approve equipment submittals
  • Support construction process from site selection through commissioning
  • Work with internal groups and external stakeholders
  • Provide international support and develop detailed schematic design packages

Requirements For Mechanical Design Engineer, Data Center Design Engineering

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or 6+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Cumulative 1+ year of experience with industrial or commercial mechanical HVAC design
  • Experience developing design documentation (plans, specifications, etc.) for construction and/or permitting
