This role combines expertise in mechanical HVAC system design with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to drive innovation in data center infrastructure.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of designing and implementing enterprise data centers globally. You'll work directly with Design Engineering, Construction, Operations, and Commissioning teams, serving as the engineering representative for your assigned region. Your responsibilities will span from performing complex calculations for building loads and water usage to creating detailed CFD models for cutting-edge designs.
The position offers a unique opportunity to work with Amazon's comprehensive infrastructure, from substations to servers and cooling systems. The role requires occasional travel, typically bi-monthly domestic trips and annual international travel.

Responsibilities For Mechanical Design Engineer, Data Center Design Engineering
- Developing mechanical documentation including narratives, drawings, specifications
- Performing CFD models on innovative and cutting edge designs
- Performing building energy use calculations for cooling system capacity
- Coordinating with construction and commissioning teams
- Working with global ME teams to achieve alignment of design and CFD modeling standards
- Providing total project management and oversight of construction
- Creating product & project specifications, requests for proposals, and capital requests
Requirements For Mechanical Design Engineer, Data Center Design Engineering
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in design engineering, construction or related field
- Understanding of building plans, project specifications, and building controls documentation
- Experience with building load calculation software
- Proficiency with 6Sigma CFD modeling software
