Description For MFG Engineer - Mechanical Assy, Manufacturing Engineering, Project Kuiper

Project Kuiper is Amazon's ambitious initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites, aimed at providing high-speed broadband connectivity to underserved communities worldwide. As a Manufacturing Engineer for Mechanical Assembly, you'll play a crucial role in bringing this vision to life.

You'll be responsible for the manufacturing engineering ownership of multiple mechanisms and assemblies for the satellite program. Working at the intersection of design and production, you'll provide critical input on manufacturability during the early design phase and support testing of assemblies. Your expertise will be vital in transitioning designs from concept to full-scale production.

The role demands a thorough understanding of mechanical systems and spacecraft manufacturing processes. You'll lead test campaigns to validate manufacturing processes for robustness, yield, and reliability. In the production environment, your focus will be on optimizing assembly processes for both cost-efficiency and quality.

You'll collaborate with a diverse team of thermal and dynamic analysts, design engineers, and tooling/automation specialists. The team culture is fast-paced and data-driven, maintaining relentlessly high standards while constantly seeking improvements in performance, quality, and cost.

Responsibilities For MFG Engineer - Mechanical Assy, Manufacturing Engineering, Project Kuiper

  • Design space hardware production processes and production lines
  • Equipment design, procurement, installation, and qualification
  • Work with supply chain partners to manage critical vendors
  • Material flow planning and manufacturing process definition
  • Support space hardware testing, including tooling design and data analysis
  • Assembly, Integration, and Test takt time & cost optimization planning
  • DFM review and sign off for design release

Requirements For MFG Engineer - Mechanical Assy, Manufacturing Engineering, Project Kuiper

  • 3+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee due to export control laws
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools (preferred)
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume (preferred)
