AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking an experienced Optical Network Development Engineer to join their Network Product Development (NPD) team within the Core Networking division. This role is crucial in building, deploying, and scaling Amazon's networks that support AWS services across multiple global data centers.
The position sits within the InterDC Optical Services team, responsible for developing and supporting optical products that interconnect AWS Data Centers and Points of Presence (PoPs). The network currently handles over 10Pbps of inter-data center traffic across more than 30,000 devices worldwide, making this a role with significant scale and impact.
As an Optical Network Development Engineer, you'll collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to evaluate and implement new hardware and software features, automate optical test plans, and work closely with network operations to improve quality and processes. The role requires strong technical expertise in optical communication systems, IEEE standards, and automation using Python.
The ideal candidate will bring 4+ years of experience in optical communications and a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, working on challenging problems that directly impact AWS's global infrastructure.
