AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking a Principal Data Center Engineering and Availability Engineer to lead availability efforts in the Americas Region. This role is crucial in maintaining AWS's global infrastructure, which powers the cloud services trusted by customers worldwide. As a Principal Engineer, you'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, working on the most challenging problems in data center operations.
The position involves overseeing and improving operational availability through strategic changes in design, construction, and operations. You'll work directly with various teams, including operations, security, field engineering, and construction management, to implement innovative processes focusing on system availability enhancement. The role requires deep technical expertise in data center infrastructure, including electrical systems, cooling systems, and critical facility operations.
Key responsibilities include auditing infrastructure designs, developing strategic solutions, leading widespread impact projects, and driving process improvements. You'll serve as a technical advisor for all AWS datacenter systems and work closely with internal teams to understand and meet user requirements. Responsibilities For Principal, Data Center Engineering and Availability, DCE Availability
- Audit and peer review DC Infrastructure Engineering designs
- Develop strategic solutions meeting quality and budgetary requirements
- Lead projects impacting infrastructure design, innovation, and implementation
- Drive process improvements to increase availability
- Provide technical oversight of Electrical and Mechanical Basis of Design
- Work with internal teams to understand user requirements
- Serve as technical advisor for AWS datacenter systems
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements
Requirements For Principal, Data Center Engineering and Availability, DCE Availability
- 10+ years of experience with mission critical facilities including critical equipment/system design
- 3+ years leading cross-functional teams working on facilities
- Understanding of uninterruptible power supplies, diesel generators, electrical switchgear
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, NESC and OSHA
- Bachelor's/Diploma/certification degree in electrical engineering (preferred)
- Professional Engineering License or Master Degree in Engineering (preferred)
- Experience with high voltage distribution systems design
- Experience with large scale technical operations
