Principal Systems Development Engineer, Managed Operations

Amazon Managed Operations (MO) is seeking a Principal Systems Development Engineer to drive technical operational efficiency across Amazon's cloud infrastructure. Founded in April 2023, MO aims to reduce operational load through long-term engineering projects. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic direction-setting, focusing on improving the availability, reliability, and performance of Amazon regions.

The position is part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which provides foundational services like S3 and EC2, along with continuous product innovations. You'll work on critical infrastructure supporting compute, database, storage, IoT, and platform services, while ensuring specialized security solutions for cloud services.

Your typical week might involve providing critical feedback on changes, guiding senior technical talent, identifying and solving major reliability risks, leading design reviews, influencing senior management on strategic investments, and developing high-impact systems. The role requires balancing immediate operational needs with long-term system improvements.
