Description For Product Design Engineer – Customer Terminals, Kuiper CT PD

Project Kuiper is Amazon's ambitious initiative to create a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites, aimed at providing high-speed broadband connectivity to underserved communities worldwide. As a Product Design Engineer for Customer Terminals, you'll be at the forefront of developing innovative consumer products for the Kuiper program. The role combines mechanical engineering expertise with consumer product development, requiring strong skills in electromechanical design, testing, and manufacturing optimization.

You'll work with an experienced cross-disciplinary team, taking ownership of multiple system components including housings, PCBs, and thermal components. The position demands strong mechanical fundamentals, practical experience with product validation, and expertise in 3D CAD and tolerance analysis. You'll be responsible for making critical design decisions, from material selection to manufacturing processes, ensuring designs are optimized for high-volume production while meeting performance requirements and challenging schedules.

The ideal candidate will bring 2+ years of consumer product development experience, with a strong background in mechanical engineering and proven expertise in product validation and environmental testing. You'll need excellent communication skills to work effectively with various teams and leadership, and a customer-focused approach to problem-solving. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology while making a significant impact on global connectivity.

The position includes competitive compensation ranging from $86,900 to $185,000 based on location, plus additional benefits including equity, medical coverage, and other comprehensive benefits. Due to export control requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or have proper asylum/refugee status.

Responsibilities For Product Design Engineer – Customer Terminals, Kuiper CT PD

  • PD Direct Responsible Individual (DRI) for multiple system components
  • Work with cross functional team to solve difficult electromechanical problems
  • Identify key design constraints and priorities
  • Deliver robust, flexible, durable, and performant designs
  • Communicate with PD members, cross functional teams, and executives
  • Create scalable solutions while solving tactical problems
  • International travel required

Requirements For Product Design Engineer – Customer Terminals, Kuiper CT PD

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in consumer/handheld product development
  • 2+ years of experience with product validation and environmental testing
  • Experience with 3D CAD skills, ProEngineer
  • Experience creating surface model and top-down design architecture
  • Experience with Tolerance Analysis and Statistical Process Control
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or refugee/asylee due to export control laws
