Description For Propulsion Test Engineer, Propulsion

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and under-served communities around the world. The Propulsion Group is seeking a Test Engineer to support the automation and optimization of flight hardware test capabilities.

The Propulsion Test Engineer will work within the Kuiper Propulsion Team in the development, operation, and optimization of electric propulsion test infrastructure. This person will develop and improve testing capabilities for various propulsion subsystems, including PCBA's, feed systems, thrusters, cathodes, tanks, and the integrated propulsion system.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Define and implement solutions to optimize and automate electric propulsion system testing
  • Develop test automation, data acquisition, and data analysis hardware and software
  • Work with hardware subsystem owners to ensure test coverage across multiple development cycles
  • Perform development testing and data analysis to accelerate existing testing
  • Author test reports and disseminate results
  • Refine test requirements and methodologies
  • Train operators in the execution of developed processes
  • Assemble and commission electric propulsion test diagnostics and facilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years developing automation, data acquisition, or control software
  • 3+ years of automating manufacturing or test processes
  • 3+ years experience with electrical test equipment and data acquisition systems
  • 3+ years of authoring manufacturing or test procedures
