Description For Security Engineer, AWS Cloud Security Response

The AWS Cloud Response Team is seeking a Security Engineer to join their dynamic team responsible for managing the security and availability of AWS Cloud services. This role is crucial in protecting AWS infrastructure and customers through the 'Security of the Cloud' aspect of the Shared Responsibility Model.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work at massive scale, handling security challenges that affect millions of AWS customers worldwide. As a Security Engineer, you'll be part of a follow-the-sun operation, working with teams across four geographical locations to ensure continuous security coverage.

Your responsibilities will include triaging security issues, coordinating responses across multiple teams, and driving security improvements through automation and process enhancement. You'll communicate with stakeholders at all levels, including the AWS Chief Information Security Officer, while managing incident response activities and contributing to the overall security posture of AWS.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in security operations, with experience in incident response and a deep understanding of security best practices. You'll need excellent communication skills, the ability to handle multiple priorities, and a passion for building and improving security tools and processes.

Responsibilities For Security Engineer, AWS Cloud Security Response

  • Triage new incoming security issues and determine risk levels for AWS
  • Communicate security issues to various audiences including technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Participate in security promotion efforts across the company
  • Manage priorities while handling interruptions and context switching
  • Coordinate and facilitate security response activities for AWS products and services
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities during team working hours and weekend rotations
  • Drive security issues to resolution across numerous service teams

Requirements For Security Engineer, AWS Cloud Security Response

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, cybersecurity, or 4+ years equivalent professional experience
  • 3+ years of experience on a Security Operations team
  • 2+ years of experience in systems, network, and/or application security
  • Understanding of best practices across multiple security disciplines/domains
  • Knowledge of system security vulnerabilities and remediation techniques
  • Strong knowledge of web protocols and common attacks
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages
  • Strong security judgment and critical thinking skills
