Amazon Security (AmSec) is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join their Secure Hardware and Foundational Technologies group. Since 2006, AmSec has been at the forefront of cloud computing security, protecting both Amazon's infrastructure and its customers. This role focuses on securing foundational platforms including OS kernels, virtualization, device emulation, firmware, and hardware.
As a Senior Security Engineer, you'll be responsible for conducting comprehensive security reviews, threat modeling, and developing tools for large-scale security issue detection. The position requires deep technical expertise in hardware security, virtualization, and system architecture. You'll work with diverse engineering teams and provide clear technical direction and risk mitigation guidance to leaders at all levels.

The compensation package is competitive, ranging from $143,300 to $247,600 based on location and experience, plus additional benefits including equity opportunities, comprehensive medical coverage, and other financial benefits. Responsibilities For Security Engineer - Hardware, Firmware, Virtualization, Secure Hardware And Foundational Technologies Team
- Conduct security reviews for hardware including servers and devices
- Perform penetration testing & vulnerability research
- Develop security tooling for issue detection at scale
- Conduct threat modeling
- Provide security training to internal development teams
- Create security guidance documentation
- Assist with recruiting activities
Requirements For Security Engineer - Hardware, Firmware, Virtualization, Secure Hardware And Foundational Technologies Team
- BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of experience in Security Engineering or Development
- Experience with virtualization security (Xen, KVM, QEMU)
- Knowledge of hardware security (PCB, JTAG, UART, SPI, ROM, microcode)
- Experience with x86 and/or ARM chipset and firmware security
- Physical security testing experience
- Security testing of compute platforms
