As part of the Secure Hardware and Foundational Technologies group, we secure Amazon's brand new products and emerging technologies. We're seeking a technically proficient Senior Security Engineer to secure foundational platforms including OS kernels, virtualization, device emulation, firmware, and hardware.
The role involves conducting security reviews, threat modeling, developing security detection tools, and performing hands-on security evaluations. You'll work with complex engineering challenges, providing clear technical direction and risk mitigation guidance to diverse engineering and business leaders. Your expertise in enterprise networking, hardware-rooted security, OS hardening, and cloud-scale administrative infrastructure will shape cloud computing's future.

Responsibilities For Security Engineer - Hardware, Firmware, Virtualization, Secure Hardware And Foundational Technologies Team
- Conducting security reviews for hardware including servers and devices
- Performing penetration testing & vulnerability research
- Conducting threat modeling
- Providing security training and outreach to internal development teams
- Creating security guidance documentation
- Assisting with recruiting activities
- Providing technical direction and risk mitigation guidance
- Mentoring junior engineers
Requirements For Security Engineer - Hardware, Firmware, Virtualization, Secure Hardware And Foundational Technologies Team
- BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
- Extensive experience in Security Engineering or Development of Security capabilities
- Experience in Virtualization security (Xen, KVM, QEMU)
- Experience with hardware security (PCB, JTAG, UART, SPI, ROM, microcode, custom ASIC/FPGA)
- Knowledge of x86 and/or ARM chipset and firmware security
- Experience with physical security testing at the machine level
- Experience with security testing of compute platforms
