Description For Senior Connectivity Engineer, AWS Data Center

AWS is seeking a Senior Connectivity Engineer to join their Core Networking team, focusing on designing and implementing fiber optic solutions for their global data center networks. This role is part of AWS Infrastructure Services, which is responsible for keeping the cloud running through the management of all AWS global infrastructure.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on some of the most complex fiber plants in the world, directly supporting AWS's core services including their Generative AI infrastructure. As a Connectivity Engineer, you'll be instrumental in developing connectivity solutions for the physical layer of AWS's network, working with cutting-edge technology and infrastructure at an unprecedented scale.

The role sits within the Network Product Development (NPD) organization, which is responsible for designing hardware, building software, and managing interconnects for routers that power the global AWS network. This team manages a network that grows by 70% annually, requiring careful attention to operational metrics and customer experience.

Key responsibilities include designing scalable fiber optic and copper plant specifications, reviewing ICT pathway submissions, and responding to high-priority issues. You'll work alongside a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, collaborating across AWS to maintain the highest standards of safety and security while optimizing capacity and cost efficiency.

  • Ensure timely delivery of scalable fiber optic & copper plant designs and specifications
  • Review and approval of ICT pathway, cable and equipment submittals
  • Identify and respond to risks and high-priority issues rapidly and effectively
  • Support new technology and design activities that improve infrastructure quality, reduce cost and installation time
  • Design fiber cables and components for data center networks

Requirements For Senior Connectivity Engineer, AWS Data Center

Linux
  • 5+ years of working experience with fiber optic components, cabling, and interconnect products, technologies, and standards
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or other Related Field OR 10+ years of experience
  • Travel 10+% to review projects
