Senior Data Scientist, Japan Transportation Engineering & Analytics

Amazon Japan's Transportation division is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead a team of Data Scientists and Data Engineers in developing machine learning and heuristic model solutions. The position focuses on three main missions:

1. Overhauling and maintaining a large-scale Data Mart for comprehensive trunk transportation information management and analysis
2. Developing machine learning and optimization algorithm solutions using the Data Mart
3. Creating Data Pipeline and Dashboard solutions for Business Insights

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement complex, high-impact solutions from architectural level
• Lead technical projects and teams using Scrum methodology
• Establish engineering and operational standards for accuracy, efficiency, quality, and reliability
• Define and track metrics for team progress and solution quality
• Make strategic decisions impacting organizational infrastructure
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders and produce strategic documentation
• Lead projects with minimal guidance

The team is particularly focused on accelerating development in machine learning solutions, which represents 80% of new development needs and delivers significant business impact. This is a growing area that has shown promising results in its first year of implementation.
