Project Kuiper is Amazon's ambitious initiative to develop a constellation of low earth orbit satellites, aimed at providing broadband internet service to unserved and underserved populations worldwide. As a Senior Hardware Development Engineer in the Customer Terminal organization, you'll play a crucial role in developing low-cost Consumer Terminals using phased array antennas and commercial PCB processes/materials.
You'll serve as the single-threaded owner of Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA), collaborating across multiple teams including silicon, RF, antenna, technical program management, and mechanical throughout the entire development lifecycle. Your responsibilities span from concept and architecture through functional testing and integration phases.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Leading cross-functional efforts in consumer terminal antenna board development
- Making critical decisions balancing tactical and strategic considerations to meet system performance targets
- Designing high-speed digital and RF circuitry
- Managing PCB vendor relationships and optimizing designs for cost-effectiveness
- Supporting transition to mass production
The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $128,600 to $213,600 per year based on location, plus comprehensive benefits including equity and sign-on payments. The role requires strong technical expertise in hardware engineering, particularly in PCBA development, high-speed digital design, and RF systems. Responsibilities For Senior Hardware Development Engineer, Customer Terminal
- Be the single-threaded owner for PCBA development from concept through production
- Design high-speed digital and/or RF circuitry in collaboration with various teams
- Design and optimize different blocks of electronics sub-systems
- Lead PCB vendor engagement for DFM review
- Optimize PCB stack-up for cost
- Design DC/DC power supply and Point of Load
- Support flow-down requirement definitions and generate test plans/procedures
- Board bring-up and perform test campaigns of modules and subsystems
- Support design of automated test systems, test fixtures and factory test
- Support the transition of the designs to mass production
Requirements For Senior Hardware Development Engineer, Customer Terminal
- BS degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in high-speed digital design and/or RF designs
- 3+ years of experience in signal and power integrity design and analysis
- 3+ years of experience of mixed signal PCB layout designs
- 3+ years of experience in using schematic capture tool and PCB layout viewer
- 2+ years of experience board bring up and debugging in lab environment
- 2+ years of experience using lab equipment
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or have refugee/asylum status
