Description For Software Dev Engineer II, Last Mile Planning

At Amazon, we deliver billions of packages every year, in addition to the many packages delivered by 3rd party carriers like UPS. Our Last Mile organization is responsible for the customer experience of receiving the delivery, and we innovate in this space with services like Same Day delivery, delivery into your garage or car, and delivery by robot.

The Channel Allocation & Cycle Planning team plans which packages will be dispatched earlier vs later, and which by alternate methods such as robots, walkers, bikes, motorbikes, or stores to pick them up. We reduce costs by sending loads of packages to remote distribution points and having delivery routes leave from there. Our systems make the best decisions on how each package in our network is delivered, complying with traffic limitations, size restrictions, and grouping packages together for efficiency.

As a Software Development Engineer on this team, you will:

  • Collaborate with other engineers, research scientists, senior engineers, and product managers
  • Develop software to automatically create the best package plans, used globally multiple times daily
  • Design, implement, and operate running software
  • Participate in daily scrum meetings, task estimation, design discussions and reviews
  • Code, review code, and perform deployment and monitoring duties
  • Learn necessary skills and mentor others
  • Participate in on-call shifts (after suitable onboarding)

The team values high degrees of trust and connectedness, safe spaces to try, fail, and learn, and a positive continuous improvement culture. We are dedicated to diversity & inclusion, with the hiring manager on the global board of Amazon Women in Engineering.

This position is located in either San Luis Obispo, California or Bellevue, Washington. San Luis Obispo offers a small-town feel with access to wineries, beaches, hiking, and mountain biking. Bellevue is a short distance from Seattle, providing access to urban amenities and outdoor activities.

Join us to have a high impact on customers and grow in a collaborative environment with high standards for quality and maintainability.
