Description For Software Development Engineer, Amazon Robotics (AR) Movement Sciences & Schedule

Amazon Robotics is seeking a talented and motivated engineer to architect, design, develop and test technologies that control and optimize robotic fulfillment used by .com operations. As a Software Development Engineer on the Movement Sciences & Schedule team, you are a key member of a diverse team of engineers who deliver highly scalable robotic systems. You will architect, design and implement systems which perform the detailed planning and execution of movement for hundreds of thousands of robotic drives within Amazon's Robotics solution.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Architect, design, and implement distributed systems applications and infrastructure in support of robotic movement.
  • Influence the team's strategy and contribute to long-term vision and roadmap.
  • Work with stakeholders across solutions architecture and operations teams to iterate on design and implementation.
  • Maintain high standards by participating in reviews, designing for fault tolerance and operational excellence, and creating mechanisms for continuous improvement.
  • Prototype and test concepts or features, both through simulation and emulators and with live robotic equipment.
  • Work directly with customers and partners to test prototypes and incorporate feedback.
  • Mentor other engineer team members.
  • Utilize software engineering processes and technologies.

The Movement Sciences & Scheduling (MOSS) team builds cloud-based, high performance software services that provide a central hub for sequencing all activities that orchestrate mobile robot movement. This system identifies issues on the warehouse floor that are impacting mobile robot performance and enables operations teams to take action.

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • Strong background or familiarity with algorithms used to solve complex problems for highly-scalable systems
