Description For Software Development Engineer, AWS Direct Connect - Metrics & Monitoring

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. The AWS Direct Connect software engineering team invents solutions that make it easy for customers to establish a dedicated network connection from their premises to the AWS cloud. These connections help to reduce network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, and provide a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections. AWS Direct Connect is currently available in more than 91 locations located in 28 countries.

The AWS Direct Connect Metering and Monitoring (M&M) team is chartered with building network monitoring for Direct Connect customers and internal teams to give visibility to DX network state and mitigate network availability risks and events. Additionally, we also own metering of data consumption for billing and analytics.

As a Software Development Engineer on this team, you will:

  • Design, implement, test, and operationalize large technical initiatives and features for our service
  • Influence our product direction through significant development contributions and technical leadership
  • Define and achieve performance metrics, and instill the operational practices needed to sustain them
  • Mentor your teammates, helping them grow and develop their technical skills
  • Work to identify features and enhancements that will contribute to our long-term vision
  • Design, build, and maintain our large-scale next-generation networks that support critical workloads
  • Work with engineering teams on data plane and control plane software, network design, and implementation
  • Identify and troubleshoot recurring issues and effectively engage with other engineering teams to ensure resolution
  • Drive deep dives for large-scale events and deliver high-quality documentation and corrective actions

This role requires a passion for operational excellence and the ability to work within a fast-moving startup environment while embracing ownership and accountability.
